Job Vacancy at Ridgeline – closing date 14 May 2021

Part-time, temporary role with possibility of extension
An opportunity to lead a pilot project for green social prescribing, which we hope will result in a longer term position as part of the team at the award-winning Ridgeline Therapeutic Garden in Whiteknights Road, East Reading.

What we do
We offer social and therapeutic horticulture to help people with experience of physical and mental disabilities and other special needs. We offer safe gardening activities year-round, with our all-weather pavilion providing shelter and warmth. With our support, clients recover and develop their skills, confidence and self-esteem and enjoy social communication.

We now seek to extend our services to clients whose mental health has worsened as a result of Covid-19, through a project piloting the benefits of green social prescribing, in collaboration with Social Prescribers at a local health centre in Reading.
We are looking for a gardener with experience of working with mental illness and other disabilities and special needs, ideally with recognised qualifications in Horticultural Therapy, to deliver a 12 week programme. The sessions will be limited to 4-8 patients each week and will be developed to suit to a range of patient needs. We are hoping this project will lead to a longer-term green social prescribing service, so it will be important to carefully monitor and record client progress and outcomes.

Hours
We need you from June to September for 6 hours per week, on Monday morning or afternoon. Although this will initially be a fixed-term contract, we are hoping that, subject to funding being available, it will be possible to extend the sessions at the end of the project and also make them available to other clients.

Working in a team
You will be working with Social Prescribers from the local health centre and you will enjoy the help of our experienced volunteers and excellent administrative support from our Development Manager. The Chair and Trustees are engaged and active in planning and supporting all the activities delivered by Ridgeline Trust.
