Avenue students learn the art of composting
Today we welcomed a group of year 11 students to Ridgeline. They had a great first session in the warm sunshine. After a tour to become familiar with the garden, they got stuck into the compost heap.
Regularly turning the compost over and putting in layers of shredded newspaper helps our garden waste rot down quickly. The students were hard at work moving the compost from one pile to another with forks and a wheelbarrow. Shredding the paper to go between the layers was a welcome break. We use our compost on our borders and vegetable patches to help everything grow.
The students are with us for the next few weeks, and we look forward to them getting to know our beautiful garden, digging, looking out for wildlife, and seeing how quickly the compost heap rots down!
