Avenue students celebrate work-related learning
Three Avenue students have been busy at the Ridgeline garden over the last few weeks. Not only have they got to grips with a range of garden tools, moved countless wheelbarrows full of soil, and found out good compost recipes, they have grown in confidence in themselves.
The Avenue School hosted a tea last Wednesday to celebrate what they have learnt at Ridgeline and what other students have gained at other local venues. Every student had a certificate, and a select few received a special certificate for extra achievement. One of our students, Eric, was chosen for putting his new gardening skills into practice at home.
“It was lovely to attend the tea, and I feel very proud of what the students achieved at Ridgeline in such a short space of time,” said Siân Hooley, Development Manager at the garden. “They got on with every task they were given, worked well as a team and realised they could achieve much more than they thought. That’s what is so great about the horticultural therapy we provide here, it’s not just about gardening, it’s gaining valuable life skills at the same time.”
A new group of Avenue students will be coming to Ridgeline after the Easter holiday, and we look forward to welcoming them.
